Intrinsically Safe, ATEX, Personal Air sampling pump for Low Flow applications
VAPex is an intrinsically safe detector that conducts low-flow sampling of vapours and gases to ensure worker safety in industrial environments. Casella approached our team to create the new VAPex model - a significantly smaller, next generation version of the original with ease of use as a focus.
OPD was responsible for the end-to-end development of the product - from research and specification, industrial design and mechanical engineering, to sourcing and production handover to a manufacturing partner for production.
The VAPex needed to meet a number of high spec certifications, including extreme thermal and drop resistance and water submergence. Challenges included an anti-static main case that incorporates an insert moulded window and light pipe component which is over-moulded with rubber to create the seal and grip details, as well as the user interface buttons.
Designed for user convenience, the VAPex features large tactile buttons for gloved use, a lockable keypad and a digital display with simple UI. The interface is fully sealed and certified for rugged dependability and security.
