We are thrilled to announce that the Leitz Protect Premium range of shredders has been awarded a Red Dot Design Award 2021. We’re really proud of this work, and want to say a huge thank you to the team at Acco for their forward thinking, collaborative approach.
Red Dot is one of the largest and most recognized consumer and industrial design competitions worldwide, attracting more than 5,000 submissions from more than 55 countries. Every year, the product design award cherry picks products for their outstanding design quality, taking into account a number of factors, including smart and innovative features, appearance and functionality.
Our Industrial Design lead, Andy, has been working with Acco since 2013 and helped establish Leitz’ brand language: the striking product profile and iconic concave top seen across their product range. The team at OPD has worked with Acco across a wide range of office products including shredders, whiteboards and stationery.
The Protect range was designed to appeal in the highly-competitive home shredder market, with features such as contemporary styling, intuitive usability, super-quiet motor, clean emptying and professional-level security cut levels, allowing consumers to enjoy the benefits of a business-grade shredder from home.
Aesthetics, usability and quality were key to preserving the Leitz premium brand integrity. The range features an elegant white and silver colourway suitable for any home, with striking form and colour breaks designed to stand out on small catalogue pages and online retail platforms.
“Our aim for this design was to transform the home office shredder from a simple utilitarian tool to a desirable object with features not usually found at this price point,” explains Andy, “without compromising on the high level of aesthetic quality that Leitz is known for. We’re very proud to have had this work recognised with a Red Dot award.”
