About the role

To spearhead the delivery of hardware and firmware projects at OPD, and lead a team to strategically enhance OPD’s design and development offerings.

About you

We’re looking for an experienced hardware and firmware engineer who is confident in delivering technically complex projects and managing development from concept to production. In addition to exceptional technical skills, we’re searching for someone who can build a team and foster a collaborative workplace. The ideal candidate will possess confident presentation skills to effectively communicate our offerings to clients and contribute to the growth of the company. They will also have a background in product design and/or engineering, and experience of working to ISO 9001 and ISO 13485 standards.

Role Responsibilities

  • Develop proposals that accurately reflect the scope and requirements of hardware and firmware projects, including timelines, deliverables and budgets
  • Lead the technical direction of hardware and firmware development on a wide range of projects
  • Manage subcontractor resources and relationships required for specialist development tasks
  • Manage the delivery of all electronics and embedded software components
  • Collaborate with Design and Engineering team colleagues to develop innovative and effective solutions
  • Develop the strategic direction for hardware and firmware development at OPD and establish an infrastructure to support this
  • Build a team ready to take on significant design challenges
  • Create a collaborative team culture to foster the growth of junior colleagues

Role Requirements

  • 7 years (+) of relevant industry experience, preferably in a product design consultancy or similar industry, and ideally including medical device development experience
  • Proven track record of successfully managing hardware and firmware projects to completion
  • Experience with embedded systems design, microcontrollers and firmware development
  • Knowledge of compliance and certification requirements for hardware products
  • Degree in Electronics, Electronic Engineering or Computer Engineering [or similar]
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with clients and colleagues
  • Experience of managing a team
