Extronics design and manufacture a range of hazardous area solutions for wireless, real time location system, asset management and backup power needs.
OPD were asked to design an intrinsically safe camera that exceeded ATEX, IECEx, MET Class 1 intrinsic safety and was IP65 rated, with 4 LED flash for use in Zone 0 hazardous areas.
Rugged injection-moulded anti-static plastic was used to manufacture the Icam501 to make sure that it met the safety specifications.
Usability was a key consideration, and the long slim lightweight enclosure weighs less than 200g, lending itself to single handed operation.
The Icam501 provides high quality pictures and gives the user the ability to add audio records to pictures taken within the hazardous area.
Passing all necessary certifications meant that it can be used in all sectors of industry including chemical, pharmaceutical plants, oil-and-gas production platforms, refineries, mining and emergency services.
