VAPex is an intrinsically safe detector that conducts low-flow sampling of vapours and gases to ensure worker safety in industrial environments. OPD helped develop a significantly smaller, next generation version of the original VAPex model with ease of use as a focus
The VAPex needed to meet a number of high spec certifications, including extreme thermal and drop resistance and water submergence. Challenges included an anti-static main case that incorporates an insert moulded window and light pipe component which is over-moulded with rubber to create the seal and grip details, as well as the user interface buttons.
OPD was responsible for the end-to-end development of the product - from research and specification, industrial design and mechanical engineering, to sourcing and production handover to a manufacturing partner for production.
Designed for user convenience, the VAPex features large tactile buttons for gloved use, a lockable keypad and a digital display with simple UI. The interface is fully sealed and certified for rugged dependability and security.
We are very proud that in 2019, the product was recognised with the Occupational Health and Safety’s New Product of the Year award.
