A CES Innovation Award winning product born out of Oxford University, the Fuel3D Scanify is the first handheld 3D scanner in the world to combine a pre-calibrated stereo camera with photometric imaging to create a point & shoot 3D Imaging system which quickly captures high resolution, accurate, colour 3D models of objects in seconds.
After a successful Kickstarter campaign, Fuel 3D wanted to develop a more refined design that could be customised for mass manufacture.
OPD worked with Fuel3D to pioneer a new architecture. OPD’s responsibilities included the Industrial design, Mechanical engineering, and the electronic and optical design aspects of the development.
OPD produced all the prototypes throughout the development schedule and performed design validation. The design was then completed to a manufacture ready level. OPD were then responsible for the handover to manufacture and delivery of the initial production batch.
The first 1000 kickstarter units were successfully delivered and the design was both cost effective to manufacture and reliable to use.
